Attitudes

In my 20's I trained in numerous gyms. Whenever I would travel I would look for a new gym to workout in. In those days most of the gyms were privately owned smaller but hardcore places.
Usually the owner would let me train for free. At one gym in Toronto Ontario the owner took time out to show me how to do 21's for my arms. I saw this same person at the Mr.Canada contest that night. He had brought several members of his gym with him to support contestants from his gym. He proceeded to hand each of the members with him free copies of Muscle Builder.
At another gym which was one of the first to bring in Nautilus machines, the owner introduced me a bodybuilder with huge arms and they took me through a complete Nautilus workout.
People in all these smaller gyms always seem friendly and there was a problem getting someone to spot you if you needed it.
Most of the gyms I belonged to in the early years were smaller and it did not take long to get training partners who trained at my level.
Today at the big gyms you can go through several workouts without speaking to anyone.Everybody seems to be walking around with ear buds listing to their music or talking only to their personal trainers. There are groups of the steroid boys who might train together but usually they walk around with an angry look on their faces and if they speak it is usually to drop a profanity.People at these gyms seem to want only to get in and out as fast a possible. There does not seem to be any comardadie or sense that they are enjoying what they are doing.
Even on blogs or Youtube comments a lot of bodybuilders post angry replies, once again laced with profanity.
Come on people enjoy what you are doing or don't do it. Politeness is not a sign of weakness so bring it back.
