TIME MACHINE

IN THIS PICTURE IS A YOUNG SLIM STEVE REEVES WITH SIG KLEIN AND JOE WEIDER IN FRONT. YEARS LATER I MET AND TALKED TO STEVE.THAT SAME WEEKEND I WAS LOOKING FOR A GOOD GYM TO WORKOUT IN WHEN I WANDERED INTO SIG'S GYM. I LEFT SHORTLY LOOKING FOR A MORE MODERN GYM. I DID NOT REALIZE THAT SIG WAS A FAMOUS STRONGMAN WHO NEW STEVE WELL. IF I HAD KNOWN MORE ABOUT SIG I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT HIS GYM WAS FILLED  WITH VINTAGE TRAINING EQUIPMENT SUCH AS ROUND ENDED BARBELLS(THE TYPE FAMOUS OLDTIME STRONGMEN WERE PICTURED WITH)AS WELL AS SIG'S LARGE COLLECTION OF BEER STIENS.I WOULD HAVE ENJOYED LOOKING AT EACH PIECE OF EQUIPMENT AS WELL  AS TALKING TO SIG ABOUT HIS LIFE AND HIS KNOWLEDGE OF STEVE. WHAT I WOULD GIVE FOR A TIME MACHINE TO TAKE ME BACK TO THAT WEEKEND WITH THE KNOWLEDGE I HAVE NOW.

ANOTHER GREAT SHOT OF AN OLDER STEVE REEVES

LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PAYS OFF

BECAUSE OF THE HEALTHY WAY STEVE TRAINED AND ATE THROUGHOUT IS LIFETIME AND KEEPING ACTIVE IN HIS LATER YEARS HE APPEARED HEALTHY EVEN AS HE GOT OLDER.

Attitudes

In my 20's I trained in numerous gyms. Whenever I would travel I would look for a new gym to workout in. In those days most of the gyms were privately owned smaller but hardcore places.
Usually the owner would let me train for free. At one gym in Toronto Ontario the owner took time out to show me how to do 21's for my arms. I saw this same person at the Mr.Canada contest that night. He had brought several members of his gym with him to support contestants from his gym. He proceeded to hand each of the members with him free copies of Muscle Builder.
At another gym which was one of the first to bring in Nautilus machines, the owner introduced me a bodybuilder with huge arms and they took me through a complete Nautilus workout.
People in all these smaller gyms always seem friendly and there was a problem getting someone to spot you if you needed it.
Most of the gyms I belonged to in the early years were smaller and it did not take long to get training partners who trained at my level.
Today at the big gyms you can go through several workouts without speaking to anyone.Everybody seems to be walking around with ear buds listing to their music or talking only to their personal trainers. There are groups of the steroid boys who might train together but usually they walk around with an angry look on their faces and if they speak it is usually to drop a profanity.People at these gyms seem to want only to get in and out as fast a possible. There does not seem to be any comardadie or sense that they are enjoying what they are doing.
Even on blogs or Youtube comments a lot of bodybuilders post angry replies, once again laced with profanity.
Come on people enjoy what you are doing or don't do it. Politeness is not a sign of weakness so bring it back.

Reg Park The Legend

A great picture of Reg Park. Like most greats from his day Reg stayed focused on his workout. Anybody with gym editque new better than to bother him during a training session. After his workout he was very approchable and friendly. He was always willing to help other bodybuilders in particular Arnold.
